Information on Cremation Urns

Lighthouse Urn in Ceramic

The newest addition to our collection of ceramic urns is this beautiful, hand-crafted Lighthouse Urn:

Lighthouse Cremation Urn | Ceramic Art Urns

These ceramic urns are a unique design based on an actual lighthouse off the Washington coast near Cape Dissapointment. Each urn is made and fired by hand, resulting in a lighthouse memorial urn that is unique and fitting for your loved one.

19″ tall, with a 6″ base, this funeral urn holds just over 220 cubic inches of remains, and can be customized with an inscription of up to four lines fired onto the front of the urn. As with all of our cremation urns over $100, this qualifies for free ground shipping.

Large Capacity Urns

Looking for large-sized cremation urns? At Urns Northwest, we have a variety of above-average capacity urns to suit your need.

The industry standard size for an adult cremation urn is 200 cubic inches. This number is reached by figuring that, for every 1 lbs of human body weight, 1 cubic inch of space is needed for cremated remains. Thus, a 180 lbs adult will require an urn with the capacity to hold 180 cubic inches of cremains.

The formula is not perfect; usually, 180 lbs will translate to slightly less than 180 cubic inches, but it is a good rule of thumb to calculate. In the cremation process, body fat is completely incinerated while most of what remains is bone matter, so a larger individual will often require an urn of less than equal capacity to their actual weight.

When searching for a funeral urn, it is still best to follow the rule of 1 lbs equals 1 cubic inch, so here we have provided a selection of cremation urns that may suit your needs.

How can I figure out if an appliqué will fit onto the urn I want?

Because our cremation urn appliqués are sold and shipped separately, it is important to determine in advance if the chosen appliqué will fit. All of our product pages display the dimensions of the product towards the bottom of the product description, so take note of the dimensions of the appliqué and then compare that to the dimensions of the urn you’ve selected. If there is any doubt, please feel free to contact us and we will measure the available space to ensure that if will fit.

How do I attach an appliqué to a cremation urn?

Our urn appliqués are designed to be attached to wood and metal urns, by a 3M industrial-grade double-stick tape. Make sure that the surface area is clean, dry, and free of dust, then simply remove the layer of plastic from the back of the appliqué and affix it directly to the place on the urn you would like it to go. Once you place it, it will not be removable so be careful!
